During the third meeting of the Monitoring Committee for the Interreg IPA Romania-Serbia Program, two major infrastructure projects totaling 14 million euros were selected for funding in the field of emergency situation management and the development of medical infrastructure in the border area.

The projects aim to improve healthcare infrastructure and civil protection and disaster management in the border region, including the acquisition of state-of-the-art equipment and the professional training of medical staff and those involved in emergency situations.

The project dedicated to emergency situation management in the border area aims to enhance the safety and protection of the population by improving the intervention capacity of professional emergency services and local communities in the cross-border region.

The medical infrastructure project aims to increase rural population access to quality medical services for early detection and treatment of dementia cases.

In the period 2021-2027, the Ministry of Development, Public Works, and Administration serves as the Managing Authority for the Interreg IPA Romania-Serbia 2021-2027 Program, which has a total budget of 87,725,681 euros and will finance projects related to environmental protection and climate change adaptation, healthcare, education, tourism and culture, as well as border management.

The program was approved by the European Commission on July 19, 2022, making it the first Interreg IPA Program at the European level approved for the 2021-2027 period.

Potential beneficiaries will exclusively use the JeMS information system for document submission and will benefit from simplified cost options for expense reimbursement, as well as a streamlining of project implementation procedures.

The program area covers three counties in Romania (Timiș, Caraș-Severin, and Mehedinți) and six districts in Serbia (Severno Banatski, Srednje Banatski, Južno Banatski, Braničevski, Borski, and Podunavski).

Individuals interested in Romanian-Serbian cross-border cooperation under the Interreg IPA Romania-Serbia Program can obtain more information by accessing the official program website: www.romania-serbia.net.
