Eurostat: Romania had the highest growth in construction production in the European Union

In June 2023, compared to May 2023, seasonally adjusted production in the construction sector decreased by 1.0% in the euro area and by 0.6% in the EU, according to the first estimates from Eurostat, the statistical office of the European Union. In May 2023, construction production increased by 0.2% in the euro area and by 0.3% in the EU.

In June 2023, compared to June 2022, construction production decreased by 0.3% in the euro area and remained unchanged in the EU.

In the euro area, in June 2023, compared to May 2023, building construction decreased by 1.2%, while civil engineering construction decreased by 0.2%. In the EU, building construction decreased by 0.9%, while civil engineering construction increased by 0.5%.

Among the member states for which data is available, the largest monthly declines in construction production were recorded in Germany (-2.8%), France (-2.5%), Hungary, and Slovakia (both -1.4%). The largest increases were observed in Romania (+3.6%), Sweden (+3.0%), and the Czech Republic (+2.5%).

In the euro area, in June 2023, compared to June 2022, building construction decreased by 1.0%, while civil engineering construction increased by 3.8%. In the EU, building construction decreased by 1.0%, while civil engineering construction increased by 4.6%.

Among the member states for which data is available, the largest annual declines in construction production were observed in Finland (-5.2%), Hungary (-3.9%), and Austria (-3.3%). The largest increases were recorded in Slovenia (+24.9%), Romania (+15.3%), and Spain (+9.5%).
