In May 2023, 3449 building permits were issued for residential buildings, increasing by 28.8% compared to April 2023 and decreasing by 19.0% compared to May 2022.

In the period 1.1 – 31.V.2023, 14,122 building permits were issued for residential buildings, down by 24.5% compared to the period 1.1 – 31.V.2022.

May 2023 compared to April 2023

In May 2023, 3,449 building permits were issued for residential buildings (+28.8% compared to April 2023), with a total usable area of 753,338 sqm (+29.3%). Of the total building permits for residential buildings, 69.4% are for the rural area.

In May 2023, there is an increase in the number of building permits issued for residential buildings compared to the previous month (+772 permits). In terms of territory, this growth is reflected in all development regions:

North-East (+211 permits), North-West (+167), West (+97), Center (+88), Bucharest-Ilfov (+61), South-West Oltenia (+51), South-East ( +50) and Sud-Muntenia (+47).

In May 2023, 646 building permits were issued for non-residential buildings (+38.3% compared to April 2023), in a total usable area of 343598 sqm (+0.3%).

Compared to the previous month, in May 2023 there was an increase in the usable area of building permits issued for non-residential buildings (+967 sqm).

In terms of territory, this growth is reflected in the following development regions:

West (+37137 sqm), North-East (+9846), Bucharest-Ilfov (+6613) and South-East (+4438). Decreases were recorded in the following development regions: North-West (-19421 sqm), Center (-19018), South-West Oltenia (-10171) and South-Muntenia (-8457).

May 2023 compared to May 2022

In May 2023, there is a decrease both in the number of building permits issued for residential buildings (-19.0%) and in the total usable area (-27.5%), compared to May 2022.

In a territorial profile, this decrease in the number of building permits issued for residential buildings (-808 permits) is reflected in all development regions:

Bucharest-Ilfov (-206 permits), South-Muntenia (-160), Center (-117), West (-100), North-West (-97), South-West Oltenia (-56), South-East ( -55) and Northeast (-17).

Compared to May 2022, in May 2023 there was an increase in both the number of building permits issued for non-residential buildings (+6.6%) and the total usable area (+37.6%).

In terms of territory, this increase in the usable surface area for building permits issued for non-residential buildings (+93,909 sqm) is reflected in the following development regions:

West (+54925 sqm), South-Muntenia (+37278), North-West (+28703), Center (+15981), South-West Oltenia (+4379) and North-East (+2512). Decreases were recorded in the development regions of Bucharest-Ilfov (-47367 sqm) and South-East (-2502).
