At the headquarters of the Ministry of Development, Public Works, and Administration (MDLPA), the coordination, implementation, and monitoring group meeting for the action plan to implement the National Strategy for Seismic Risk Reduction took place. Representatives from central and local public authorities, academia, research and professional environment, operational program management authorities, and civil society participated in the meeting.
The National Strategy for Seismic Risk Reduction promotes increasing the earthquake resilience of communities and the built environment in Romania, establishing general objectives, actions, and results to be achieved incrementally by the year 2050.
Additionally, the strategy proposes a detailed roadmap of short, medium, and long-term actions, which, together with other developed tools (investment programs, monitoring and evaluation mechanisms, communication instruments), will support the achievement of the envisaged objectives.
The event organized by MDLPA and supported by the Ministry of Internal Affairs, through the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations, aimed primarily at monitoring the implementation status of the actions carried out by the entities responsible for coordinating them and discussing the main challenges from the perspective of public policies and technical issues.
The discussions highlighted the efforts made by the two coordinating institutions, with responsibilities in seismic risk reduction, regarding the updating of the legislative and normative framework in the field of seismic risk reduction and the multiplication of funding programs that can be accessed from European and national funds for residential and public buildings, especially in the education and health sectors, as well as the steps taken regarding progress in the implementation of the strategy.
The meeting continued in an interactive format to allow participants to express opinions on improving the action plan and to propose public policy measures or research on innovative solutions or specific approaches in their areas of expertise.
