Adrian-Ioan Veștea, the Minister of Development, Public Works, and Administration, has signed the financing contract for a major infrastructure project dedicated to improving the infrastructure and intervention capacity of emergency services in the Romanian-Serbian border region. The project, valued at 9.5 million euros, is implemented in partnership by the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations of Romania, the Ministry of the Interior of Serbia, and the Territorial Inspectorate for Emergency Situations Timiș. Its goal is to enhance the civil protection systems and infrastructure and equip the structures involved in risk and disaster management with specific equipment.
Additionally, awareness and information campaigns in the field of the environment and emergency preparedness, including for children and youth, will be conducted, along with training programs for specialized personnel.
Through the project, the necessary investments will be made to promote adaptation to climate change and disaster prevention, as well as to improve the resilience of the Romanian-Serbian border region against these risks.
The Interreg IPA Romania-Serbia 2021-2027 program has a budget of 74.5 million euros and finances three types of projects: strategically important projects, large infrastructure projects, and projects selected through competitive calls related to environmental protection and adaptation to climate change, health and education, tourism and culture, border management. These projects will be implemented in the program area (Timiș, Caraș-Severin, and Mehedinți in Romania, and 6 districts in the Republic of Serbia: Severno Banatski, Srednje Banatski, Južno Banatski, Braničevski, Borski, Podunavski). In the coming period, the process of contracting the selected projects will continue.
