Drobeta-Turnu Severin Records the Highest Increase in the T.R.A.I. Index Score in 2024

In 2024, Drobeta-Turnu Severin recorded the highest increase in the total score of the T.R.A.I. Index, gaining 7.74 points more than the previous year. This aggregate score is based on four sub-indicators: traffic, urban landmarks, air quality, and real estate. Meanwhile, the city of Zalău experienced the most significant decline, with a decrease of 9.63 points compared to 2023.

Vocea Cartierelor Component: The Biggest Changes

Regarding the Vocea Cartierelor component, Bistrița and Botoșani registered the largest increases, each gaining 2 points. Conversely, Alexandria saw a significant drop of 12 points in its total score, based on 13 subjective criteria evaluated by the city’s residents.

The T.R.A.I. Index integrates both objective data from sources such as Google Traffic, Google Places, Airly, and Storia, as well as subjective opinions from over 100,000 residents in areas covered by the platform, reflected in the Vocea Cartierelor score.

Among the subjective indicators assessed are safety, cleanliness, access to parking and public transport, bicycle lanes, noise levels, running water, waste management and gas services, the sewage system, district heating services, overall satisfaction, and general cost of living.

T.R.A.I. Index in Bucharest: Minor Changes but Differences in Sub-Indicators

In the overall Vocea Cartierelor score, Bucharest remained relatively stable, experiencing only a slight decrease of 1 point. Regarding objective indicators, there was a modest decline of 1.5 points.

However, certain sub-indicators saw significant decreases compared to 2023:

  • The running water access score fell by 5.18 points.
  • Satisfaction with gas services declined by 4.82 points.

On the other hand, parking access showed the highest increase, rising by 3 points from the previous year.

Regarding neighborhood-level changes, the district of Floreasca recorded the most significant improvement in bicycle lane access, increasing by 24.55 points in 2024 compared to 2023, followed by Pipera (+13.35).

District heating services were better rated in Aviației (+13.96) and Pantelimon (+11.69). Additionally, parking access received a higher evaluation in Floreasca, where the score increased by 10.71 points in 2024 compared to 2023.

Conversely, Vitan recorded the largest declines in multiple indicators:

  • Running water access fell by 16.42 points.
  • Public transport access dropped by 15.04 points.
  • The sewage system score decreased by 14.99 points.
  • Gas service provision saw a decline of 14.76 points.

City Score Evolution Based on Objective Data (Traffic, Landmarks, Air, Real Estate) – 2024 vs. 2023

At the objective score level, the most significant fluctuations occurred in the traffic and air quality sub-indicators, measured using Google Traffic and Airly, while urban landmarks and real estate price scores remained relatively stable.

The traffic sub-indicator provides precise data on road congestion and travel speed relative to the legal maximum speed in the area. A higher score indicates less traffic.

  • In 2024, compared to 2023, Buzău recorded a 6.57-point decline in this indicator.
  • Giurgiu, on the other hand, saw an increase of nearly 9 points.

Regarding air quality,

  • Deva recorded a significant decline of 17.63 points.
  • Călărași showed substantial improvement, with a 20.74-point increase compared to the previous year.

City Score Evolution Based on Subjective Data (Vocea Cartierelor) – 2024 vs. 2023

In 2024, perceptions of safety levels declined significantly in some cities:

  • Deva experienced the largest drop, with a 14.96-point decrease.
  • Botoșani, however, saw an improvement of 2.85 points.

In terms of cleanliness,

  • Alexandria recorded the largest decline (-12 points).
  • Vaslui saw a slight increase of 1.76 points.

Parking access was a major concern in some cities:

  • Alba Iulia recorded a 16.88-point decrease.
  • Meanwhile, Râmnicu Vâlcea saw an increase of 5.06 points.

Public transport perceptions improved in Târgoviște, where the sub-indicator increased by 6.72 points compared to 2023.

  • In Alexandria, however, the score dropped significantly by 13.14 points, indicating lower satisfaction with public transportation.

Regarding bicycle lane access,

  • Botoșani recorded the largest decline (-10.87 points).
  • Focșani experienced an impressive increase of 25.07 points, suggesting a significant improvement in biking infrastructure.

Noise level perception declined the most in Zalău, where the score dropped by 9.57 points in 2024 compared to 2023.

  • Călărași, however, recorded the highest improvement, with a 6.72-point increase.

Regarding running water access,

  • Târgu Jiu recorded the largest decline (-13.43 points).
  • Botoșani saw the highest improvement, gaining 7.49 points.

In waste management services,

  • Alexandria had the largest decline (-14.49 points).
  • Botoșani improved by 4.44 points.

In gas services,

  • Zalău recorded the largest drop (-10.02 points).
  • Botoșani saw a 10.01-point increase.

Regarding the sewage system,

  • Târgu Jiu had the most significant decline (-14.56 points).
  • Botoșani experienced the highest improvement (+4.83 points).

District heating services saw the biggest decline in Alexandria (-20.25 points), while Brăila recorded the highest increase (+7.79 points).

General satisfaction levels dropped the most in Alexandria (-15.18), while Botoșani had the highest increase (+3.51 points).

Regarding the general cost of living,

  • Alexandria saw the largest drop (-14.78 points).
  • Brăila recorded the highest increase (+4 points).
