Online Trade in Construction Materials Sees Strong Growth in Romania

Online commerce of construction materials has grown significantly in recent years, driven by the digitalization of the sector and the need for efficiency. According to a Euroconstruct report, online sales of construction materials in Romania increased by over 22% between 2023 and 2024, with this trend expected to continue into 2025.

The advantages of online purchasing include access to a wide range of products, quick price comparisons, and time savings. Many platforms now offer direct delivery to construction sites, which can reduce logistics costs by up to 10–15%.

On the other hand, risks involve the potential delivery of non-compliant products, missed delivery deadlines, or difficulties in returning items. Also, the lack of direct inspection may lead to technical mismatches in the project.

Experts recommend checking supplier reviews, requesting certificates of conformity, and using well-established platforms. A good practice is to combine online purchases with on-site visits to suppliers’ warehouses to inspect key materials.
