First Projects Signed Under the Interreg VI-A NEXT Romania–Republic of Moldova Programme

The Ministry of Development, Public Works and Administration, acting as the Managing Authority for the Interreg VI-A NEXT Romania–Republic of Moldova 2021–2027 Programme, announces the signing of the first two grant contracts for projects selected under the small-scale project call.

These projects focus on culture and tourism, as well as enhancing administrative capacity.

CULTURISE: Promoting Heritage and Sustainable Tourism

The first project, titled "CULTURISE: Culture and Sustainable Tourism for Social Inclusion and Innovation in RMD and RO", has a total budget of €329,779.91, of which €296,801.91 represents the requested grant.

Implemented by Community Association Fate (lead beneficiary), the project aims to foster cross-border cooperation between NGOs in Romania and the Republic of Moldova in order to promote cultural heritage and sustainable tourism.

The initiative will highlight sustainable tourism in the Romanian counties of Iași, Botoșani, and Vaslui, as well as in the Moldovan districts of Chișinău, Orhei, Soroca, and Ungheni.

Strengthening Public Administration and Cooperation

The second project, titled "Innovative Actions for Enhanced Public Administration and Cross-border Cooperation", has a total budget of €265,937.80, with €239,344.02 requested through the Interreg Programme.

Led by the Association for Sustainable Development "Prut-Danube" Galați, the project focuses on enhancing administrative capacity to support sustainable development and quality of life in the region.

Key components include the establishment of two Resource Centres in Cahul (Republic of Moldova) and Tulucești (Romania), which will act as support hubs for developing EU project management skills and implementing a Joint Action Plan for strengthening public administration and cross-border cooperation.

About the Programme

The Interreg NEXT Romania–Republic of Moldova Programme is a cross-border cooperation initiative funded by the European Union, with a total budget of €97 million.

It targets the border region between Romania and the Republic of Moldova, aiming to foster the development of frontier areas and enhance bilateral cooperation.

The programme supports actions in the fields of health, education, tourism and culture, climate change adaptation, and border management.
