The automation of logistics processes in construction is becoming a defining factor for operational efficiency. In 2024, the European Commission included logistics digitalisation in the new guidelines on the green transition in construction, and Romania is beginning to close the gap in this field.
The implementation of digital material management systems – including RFID, QR codes, and mobile applications for tracking deliveries – enables the optimisation of workflows, reduction of losses and real-time stock control. According to a JRC study (2023), the use of these technologies can reduce construction site execution times by up to 30% and indirect costs by 15%.
Several construction companies in Romania launched partnerships in 2024 with technology start-ups to introduce automation solutions. AFIR also announced the extension of eligibility for such technologies within infrastructure projects financed through the National Strategic Plan (PNS).
In a market where competitiveness is directly linked to cost control and delivery predictability, logistics automation is becoming a strategic investment rather than merely a competitive advantage.
