Lightweight metal structures are gaining ground in Romania as an alternative solution for residential, commercial, and industrial construction. The advantages of these systems include fast installation, earthquake resistance, and low maintenance requirements.

A report by the National Institute for Construction shows that over 7% of new residential buildings completed in 2024 used lightweight metal structures, up from 5% in 2022. The average construction time for a two-storey house (ground floor + one floor) is about 3 months, with an estimated cost ranging from €500 to €650/m², depending on finishes.

The materials used—galvanized profiles, structural steel, and thermal insulation panels—are 100% recyclable and easily adaptable to nZEB standards.

However, implementing these solutions requires specialized design and close collaboration with experienced contractors. The trend is expanding into rural areas and public projects, especially for healthcare units and modular schools.

In conclusion, metal structures are becoming increasingly relevant in Romania’s construction market, and fiscal or legislative support could accelerate their large-scale adoption.
