The Commission has launched a survey aimed at enterprises and other relevant stakeholders interested in pooling demand and connecting demand with supply for strategic raw materials.

Responses to the survey will contribute to the creation of a future mechanism for aggregating demand and correlating for strategic raw materials, as included in the Regulation on Critical Raw Materials.

The EU needs access to a secure, diversified, sustainable, and affordable supply of critical raw materials, which are vital for strategic sectors such as the "net zero" industry, digital industry, aerospace industry, and defense.

To strengthen the supply security of critical raw materials, President von der Leyen announced, in the State of the Union speech in 2023, the creation of a mechanism for aggregating demand and correlating for strategic raw materials.

This follows the successes of a similar mechanism for gas within the EU Energy Platform.

The new mechanism is part of the Regulation on Critical Raw Materials, which will enter into force in the coming weeks.

It will involve various parts of the value chain of strategic raw materials, including extraction, processing, and recycling of such materials.

The survey is open for contributions until May 7, 2024.
