Buildings that comply with the design but do not function

There are projects that are executed correctly.

They follow the plan. They follow the materials. They follow the details.

And yet, they do not function.

The problem is not visible at handover.

It appears over time.

In the way the space is used. In the adaptations that occur. In the small daily compromises which, accumulated, become evident.

The project was correct.

The usage is not.

This difference arises from a subtle premise.

Design anticipates. Reality adapts.

Between the two, there is a gap that cannot be completely eliminated. But it can be reduced.

In many cases, functionality is defined theoretically. Based on logical flows, standards, and validated typologies.

In practice, usage is influenced by real behaviors, difficult to standardize.

A well-dimensioned space can become uncomfortable.

A logical circulation can become unnecessary.

An optimal solution can become rigid.

The building is not wrong. But it is not fully adapted.

For developers and designers, the challenge is not only respecting the project.

But understanding how it will be lived.

Because the difference between a good project and a successful one is not determined by execution.

But by usage.

And this cannot be perfectly simulated.

Only intelligently anticipated.
