Investments in green-certified buildings (LEED, BREEAM, WELL) exceeded €1.4 billion in Romania in the first eight months of 2025, according to a report published by the Romanian Green Building Council.

The most active cities are Bucharest, Cluj-Napoca, and Timișoara, where office and retail real estate developers are relying on green certifications to attract premium tenants and sustainable financing. In Bucharest, 60% of projects under construction in the northern area are pre-registered for BREEAM Excellent or LEED Gold.

Romanian banks have begun offering green financing products, with preferential interest rates for projects that meet energy efficiency and sustainable materials criteria.

Beyond image benefits, green buildings generate annual utility savings of up to 25% and increase property value by 10–15% compared to standard buildings.

In the context of the European Green Deal and NZEB regulations, this trend is expected to intensify, turning green buildings from an exception into the norm by 2030.
