Green buildings are gaining ground in Romania’s real estate market, increasingly chosen for both commercial and residential projects. International certifications such as BREEAM and LEED have become quality standards, ensuring not only energy efficiency but also a healthy working environment.
A report by the Romania Green Building Council shows that the number of certified green buildings exceeded 600 in 2024, marking a 20% increase compared to the previous year. Benefits include reducing energy consumption by up to 40%, water use by 30%, and increasing employee productivity in office buildings.
Developers are investing more and more in technologies such as smart façades, rainwater harvesting systems, and integrated solar panels. Initial costs for implementing green standards are estimated at 5–10% of the project’s value, but operational savings offset the investment within 7–10 years.
In the long term, green buildings are becoming a decisive factor for attracting tenants and investors, strengthening Romania’s position in the regional sustainable construction market.
