Saint-Gobain Romania announces the launch of the 19th edition of the International Architecture Competition for Students, a competition based on Saint-Gobain's vision of sustainable buildings.

Students from the fields of architecture, design, construction engineering, or other related disciplines can participate in this competition, regardless of their year of study. Participating projects can be submitted to the national competition until February 29, 2024.

The objective of the Student Architecture Competition is to develop a sustainable construction project, both for people and the planet, with energy-efficient buildings, reduced carbon emissions, and a high level of occupant comfort. Students can participate individually or in teams of up to two members, along with a coordinating professor.

Each year, Saint-Gobain selects a country with an architectural challenge and closely collaborates with local universities and municipalities to design a project addressing various real social and cultural aspects. Students from different universities around the world propose projects to compete for the competition's awards.

This year's edition challenges participants to develop project proposals for the revitalization of an area in the northeast of Helsinki, Finland.

One of the main challenges of this edition involves designing a new residential building, in parallel with renovating and converting an existing office building into a residential function for accommodating short-term collaborators working on projects within these offices - researchers or students. Additionally, participants must design the interconnection of these buildings while integrating other constructions in the study area and the public outdoor space.

Special attention is given to concepts of circularity and reusing materials and building components.
