Modular construction is gaining ground in Romania thanks to advantages related to execution speed, quality control, and optimized costs. It involves manufacturing structural components in a controlled environment (off-site), followed by rapid on-site assembly.

Execution time is reduced by up to 50%, while material waste is 60% lower compared to conventional construction. According to a report by the Modular Building Institute, modular buildings can be up to 20% cheaper, depending on the type of project and location.

In Romania, current applications include collective housing, educational facilities, temporary hospitals, and commercial spaces. Several local administrations are exploring public–private partnerships to use modules in social and educational projects.

Modular construction also contributes to reducing the carbon footprint, thanks to optimized transport and the reuse of components. In the long term, this technology could redefine efficiency standards in Romania’s construction sector.
