According to data from the National Institute of Statistics (INS), the consumption of ready-mixed concrete in Romania increased by approximately 7.2% in 2024 compared with the previous year, reaching an estimated total of over 9.1 million cubic meters. This development reflects the partial resumption of infrastructure works and residential projects in major urban centres, supported by the stabilization of prices for key construction materials.
The regions with the highest demand remain Bucharest–Ilfov, Cluj, Timiș, and Iași, where both major public projects and private investments are concentrated. By contrast, counties in the southern and eastern parts of the country record low levels of concrete use, due to limited infrastructure and reduced investment activity.
Eurostat data show that Romania’s per-capita concrete consumption remains 25% below the EU average, indicating medium-term growth potential, particularly in the context of EU funding available through the NRRP and the 2021–2027 structural programmes. To support efficient consumption, investment is needed in modernizing production capacities, strengthening regional logistics networks, and improving quality control throughout the supply chain.
