The eco-friendly brick, produced from fired clay combined with natural or recycled additives, is gradually gaining ground in Romania’s construction materials market, driven by the growing interest in energy-efficient buildings with a reduced carbon footprint. According to the Construction Materials Producers Association, in 2024 sales of eco-friendly bricks increased by approximately 8% compared to the previous year, and the forecast for 2025 indicates double-digit growth.

This type of brick is characterized by low thermal conductivity, which reduces heat loss and, consequently, heating costs by up to 25% during the cold season. Its compressive strength averages between 10 and 15 N/mm², comparable to or even higher than that of traditional bricks. Furthermore, the production process involves reduced energy consumption—up to 30% lower than for conventional materials—thanks to the use of modern firing technologies.

The average price for one cubic meter of masonry built with eco-friendly bricks is 10–15% higher than that of conventional masonry; however, the investment pays for itself in 7–10 years through energy savings and reduced maintenance costs. In addition, this material offers improved sound insulation, making it attractive for urban residential projects.

In the long term, demand for eco-friendly bricks is supported both by European regulations on building energy efficiency and by national funding programs such as Casa Verde Plus and Renovare Energetică. Experts estimate that by 2030, the eco-friendly brick segment could account for over 25% of Romania’s total masonry market.
