Building Information Modeling (BIM) is gradually becoming a mandatory standard in construction projects in Romania, aligning with European trends. This technology enables the integration of design, execution, and building management into a single digital platform.
According to a report by the European Commission, the use of BIM can reduce a project’s total costs by 15–20% and shorten execution timelines by up to 30%. In Romania, BIM is already used in major infrastructure projects and is increasingly present in the residential and commercial sectors.
The main benefits include detecting conflicts between disciplines before execution, optimizing material consumption, and increasing transparency for investors and beneficiaries. In addition, BIM facilitates the integration of smart building solutions and IoT systems.
The Ministry of Development has announced that by 2030, BIM will be mandatory for all public projects, which will accelerate market professionalization and the complete digitalization of construction processes.
