The construction industry generates over 35% of all waste produced annually at European level, according to Eurostat (2024). In this context, effective material-recycling solutions are becoming essential for reducing the carbon footprint and optimising project costs. A recent report by the Joint Research Centre (JRC) shows that recycling concrete and asphalt can cut emissions by up to 50% and lower total project expenses by 20–30%, without compromising strength or durability.

In Romania, the Ministry of the Environment published in 2024 an action plan introducing new standards for the use of recycled materials in public works. Among the key targets is raising the reuse rate of construction waste from 22% to 50% by 2030. In parallel, the Ministry of Agriculture and the Ministry of Development have announced PNRR funding for on-site sorting stations and recycling facilities dedicated to construction waste.

A concrete example is the growing adoption of mobile crushing technology on road infrastructure sites, which enables contractors to reuse aggregates directly within the project. Construction companies that implement such solutions can gain significant competitive advantages, including additional points in public tenders and reductions in local taxes.

The future of sustainable construction is closely linked to the ability to integrate circular-economy principles into operational processes. Recycling is no longer merely a legal obligation—it is a strategic opportunity for efficiency and innovation.
