By the End of 2024, Romania's Motorway Network Increased
by 140 km
As of December 31, 2024, the total length of
Romania’s public road network reached 86,847 km, of which:

17,994
km (20.7%) were national roads,
-
35,091
km (40.4%) were county roads, and
-
33,762
km (38.9%) were communal roads.
In terms of surface type, the road network was composed of:

51.5%
modernized roads (44,752 km),
-
of
which 94.0% had heavy and medium asphalt surfacing;
-
23.7%
light surfacing roads (20,563 km);
-
24.8%
gravel and earth roads (21,532 km).
Technical Condition of Roads

had exceeded their service life.
Motorways and Express Roads
Within the national road category:

km (34.4%) were international roads,

km (6.3%) were motorways,

As for the number of traffic lanes:

Among county roads, 52.7% were modernized, while 33.3%
of communal roads were gravel roads.
As of December 31, 2024, the length of railway
lines in public use totaled 10,611 km, including:

The railway density was 44.5‰ per 1,000 km².
