Primary Energy Resources and Electricity Consumption in
Romania: January–April 2025
Between January 1st and April 30th, 2025, Romania
recorded an increase of 5.0% in primary energy resources and 1.5% in
electricity resources, compared to the same period in 2024.
In the first four months of 2025, total primary energy
resources amounted to 11,163.9 thousand tonnes of oil equivalent (toe),
marking an increase of 533.9 thousand toe compared to January–April
2024.

Domestic
production totaled 5,917.1 thousand toe, a decrease of 313.6
thousand toe (-5.0%) year-over-year.

Imports
rose significantly to 5,246.8 thousand toe, up by 847.5 thousand
toe (+19.3%).
Electricity Resources and Production
Total electricity resources reached 23,219.9
million kWh, an increase of 351.3 million kWh compared to the same
period of the previous year.

Electricity
generated from thermal power plants was 5,998.7 million kWh,
down 132.1 million kWh (-2.2%).

Hydropower
generation dropped sharply to 3,893.7 million kWh, a decline of
1,999.0 million kWh (-33.9%).

Nuclear
power generation amounted to 3,936.0 million kWh, slightly
lower by 47.0 million kWh (-1.2%).

Wind
power generation stood at 2,126.5 million kWh, a year-on-year
decrease of 504.1 million kWh.

Solar
energy production from photovoltaic installations reached 1,092.4
million kWh, an increase of 259.3 million kWh compared to the
same period in 2024.
Electricity Consumption and Trade

Final
electricity consumption totaled 16,952.7 million kWh, up 1.0%
year-over-year.

Electricity
consumption in the economy decreased by 0.2%.

Residential
consumption rose by 5.5%.

Public
lighting consumption declined by 7.4%.

Electricity
exports reached 4,440.1 million kWh, an increase of 267.8
million kWh compared to the same period in 2024.

Grid
and station own-technology consumption amounted to 1,827.1 million
kWh, a decrease of 92.5 million kWh.
