Primary Energy and Electricity Resources –
January–February 2025
Between January 1 and February 28, 2025, Romania’s primary
energy resources increased by 2.6%, while electricity resources rose by 0.5%
compared to the same period of the previous year (January 1–February 29, 2024).
In the first two months of 2025, total primary energy
resources amounted to 5,335.1 thousand tonnes of oil equivalent (toe),
up by 135.6 thousand toe from the same period in 2024.

Domestic
production accounted for 2,743.1 thousand toe, representing a
decrease of 230.0 thousand toe (-7.7%).

Imports
totaled 2,592.0 thousand toe, marking an increase of 365.6
thousand toe (+16.4%).
During the same period, electricity resources reached 11,791.4
million kWh, an increase of 55.2 million kWh compared to
January–February 2024.

Electricity
generation from thermal power plants was 3,725.5 million kWh,
up by 24.9 million kWh (+0.7%).

Hydropower
production totaled 1,700.5 million kWh, a sharp decline of 1,258.8
million kWh (-42.5%).

Nuclear
power generation amounted to 1,939.9 million kWh, down by 40.7
million kWh (-2.1%).

Wind
power generation reached 1,010.0 million kWh, a decrease of 542.6
million kWh from the same period in 2024.

Solar
power generation from photovoltaic installations rose to 338.5
million kWh, up by 78.4 million kWh.
Final Electricity Consumption
Final electricity consumption between January 1 and February
28, 2025, was 8,828.7 million kWh, 2.3% higher than in the same
period of 2024.

Electricity
use in the economy increased by 2.4%.

Household
consumption rose by 2.5%.

Public
lighting recorded a decrease of 8.3%.
Electricity Exports and Losses

Electricity
exports totaled 1,966.6 million kWh, down by 83.9 million
kWh.

Technological
consumption in transmission and distribution networks amounted to 996.1
million kWh, a reduction of 58.9 million kWh.
