AI technology is increasingly used in analyzing the structural behavior of buildings. Machine learning–based models process data from:
historical earthquakes soil characteristics types of structures sensors installed in buildings.
These systems can estimate building vulnerability and identify critical points before a major event occurs. In Japan and the United States, digital structural monitoring platforms are already integrated into building design and management.
Digital twin + AI enable:
simulation of seismic scenarios prioritization of strengthening interventions rapid post-earthquake assessment.
For Romania, this technology is particularly relevant in the context of an aging building stock and high seismic risk. Implementation is gradual, especially in large projects and critical infrastructure.
In the medium term, predictive seismic assessment will become a standard in design and building management, transforming structural safety from a reactive approach into data-driven prevention.
