The digital transformation of the construction sector is taking shape in Romania, as digital site monitoring becomes an increasingly common practice. This involves the use of video cameras, sensors, drones, and software platforms to track the progress of construction works in real time, according to a report by the Ministry of Development (2024).
A notable example is the implementation of Building Information Modeling (BIM) platforms, which enable synchronization between architects, builders, and public authorities. These solutions help reduce errors, prevent delays, and improve budget control.
According to data presented in the National Strategy for the Digitalization of Construction, adopted in 2023, approximately 15% of major infrastructure projects already benefit from some form of digital monitoring, and the percentage is steadily increasing. However, the small and medium-sized construction sector remains poorly digitalized, mainly due to high initial costs and a shortage of qualified personnel.
