The construction equipment rental market is expanding rapidly in Romania, driven by the volatility of public investments and rising acquisition costs. According to an analysis by Eurostat and INS (2024), the “machinery leasing and rental” segment grew by 14.3% in the first half of the year, exceeding market operators’ expectations.
Among the most in-demand equipment are excavators, mobile cranes, and compaction machinery, used primarily in public projects (roads, sewerage systems) or logistics construction. This growth is also supported by measures under the NRRP and CAP Strategic Plan, which allow equipment to be used under rental schemes for time-limited projects.
The advantages are clear: lower initial costs, maintenance ensured by the provider, and the ability to quickly adapt to the requirements of each construction site. Additionally, pressure on supply chains and long delivery times for new machinery are pushing many companies to choose temporary but efficient solutions.
However, specialists underline the need for clearer regulation of the secondary equipment market, especially regarding safety, maintenance, and the traceability of refurbished machinery.
