Rebar steel is an essential material in load-bearing structures for buildings and infrastructure. In 2024, domestic consumption of rebar steel in Romania was estimated at 1.4 million tons, according to INS data, marking a 5% increase compared to the previous year.
The average price of rebar steel ranged between 3,000 and 3,300 lei/ton, influenced by the volatility of the international scrap metal market and by energy costs. In addition, pressure to decarbonize the industry is forcing producers to adopt recycling technologies and low-CO₂ emission processes.
Trends for 2025 include growing demand from the infrastructure sector, with the launch of highway and railway projects financed through the PNRR. Part of the demand will also be covered by imports, particularly from Turkey and Poland, where production capacities are competitive.
Experts estimate that by 2030, the use of steel produced through green technologies (with over 50% recycled content) will become a standard, both at the European level and on the local market.
