Mineral wool, an essential material for thermal insulation, is experiencing steady demand on the Romanian market, especially in the context of new energy requirements for buildings. In 2024, the local market exceeded 250,000 tonnes of mineral wool-based products, according to estimates from the Romanian Mineral Wool Producers Association.

The most commonly used types are rock mineral wool (for ventilated façades, roofs, and walls) and glass mineral wool (for attics, interior walls, and floors). Prices range between 120 and 250 RON/m², depending on thickness and density.

Producers report challenges related to the availability of raw materials, high energy costs, and increasingly strict requirements regarding production emissions. Investments in automated production lines and energy recovery technologies are becoming priorities.

In the medium term, demand growth is supported by the RePowerEU program and energy renovation projects for public and residential buildings, offering major opportunities for the sector.
