Prefabricated laminated timber elements are becoming an increasingly attractive solution for modern construction, thanks to their mechanical properties and ecological advantages. Glued laminated timber (glulam) is produced by bonding several layers of dried wood, resulting in a material with high mechanical strength and dimensional stability.
In Romania, the use of laminated timber is still in its early stages, but in countries such as Germany, Austria, and Sweden, this technology is standard for residential and commercial buildings. Glulam structures can support large spans of up to 40 meters, making them ideal for industrial halls, public buildings, and modern-design homes.
Costs are competitive: between 400 and 600 euros/m³, depending on the wood species and treatments applied. Moreover, the manufacturing process has a low carbon footprint, and most of the wood used comes from FSC-certified sources.
Specialists estimate that the local market for laminated timber prefabricates will grow by 20% annually over the next five years, driven by the demand for sustainable and energy-efficient construction.
