Increase in Building Permits Issued in January 2025

According to the National Institute of Statistics (INS), 1,918 building permits for residential buildings were issued in January 2025, marking a 4.9% increase compared to January 2024.

In January 2025, a total of 1,918 residential building permits were issued (+4.9% compared to January 2024), covering a total usable area of 468,930 square meters (+11.4%).

Of the total residential building permits, 70.0% were issued for rural areas. Notably, January 2025 saw an increase in the number of residential building permits issued compared to the corresponding month of the previous year (+89 permits).

Regional Distribution of Growth

This increase was reflected in the following development regions:

• West (+45 permits)
• South-Muntenia (+40)
• Center (+14)
• Bucharest-Ilfov (+12)
• North-West (+7)
• South-West Oltenia (+5)

Decreases were recorded in:

• South-East (-20 permits)
• North-East (-14 permits)

Non-Residential Building Permits

In January 2025, 345 building permits for non-residential buildings were issued, reflecting a 7.0% decrease compared to January 2024. However, the total usable area increased significantly to 363,919 square meters (+136.6%).

Compared to the same month of the previous year, the usable area for non-residential building permits increased by 210,122 square meters.

Regional Distribution of Non-Residential Growth

This increase was observed in the following development regions:

• South-West Oltenia (+184,009 sqm)
• North-West (+20,887 sqm)
• North-East (+11,362 sqm)
• Bucharest-Ilfov (+3,679 sqm)
• Center (+2,597 sqm)

Decreases were recorded in:

• West (-7,437 sqm)
• South-Muntenia (-3,158 sqm)
• South-East (-1,817 sqm)
