Cross-laminated timber (CLT) is one of the most innovative solutions for sustainable construction, offering a durable alternative to concrete and steel. CLT panels are made by gluing multiple layers of wood arranged perpendicularly, which provides high mechanical strength and dimensional stability.

In Europe, this technology is widely used in the construction of residential buildings, schools, and commercial spaces. In Romania, the first CLT projects have been implemented in tourist and educational areas, and interest in this material is steadily growing.

Costs range between €600 and €900/m³, but the long-term advantages include reducing construction time by up to 50%, a much smaller carbon footprint, and excellent thermal insulation performance. CLT panels can be manufactured in large dimensions, reducing the number of joints and increasing execution efficiency.

In the long run, experts estimate that CLT technology could become an important part of Romania’s green construction market, supported by European sustainability regulations.
