Decorative plasters are an essential component in building finishes, serving both aesthetic and functional purposes. At present, the Romanian market is dominated by three main types: silicone-based plasters, silicate plasters, and acrylic plasters, each with properties adapted to different climatic conditions and technical requirements.
Silicone-based plasters stand out for their high vapor permeability and excellent water resistance, making them suitable for buildings exposed to harsh weather. Silicate plasters have very good adhesion to mineral substrates and a lifespan that can exceed 25 years, according to data from the National Construction Research Institute. Acrylic plasters, more affordable in price, offer a very wide range of colors and textures and are easy to apply.
Costs range from 35 to 70 RON/m², depending on the type of material, grain size (between 1.0 and 3.0 mm), and application complexity. For a single-family house with a 150 m² façade surface, the total cost of applying decorative plaster can range between 5,500 and 10,500 RON.
Modern technologies include hydrophobic additives, UV-resistant pigments, and antimicrobial treatments, which reduce the risk of mold growth or color fading over time. In addition, proper application—respecting drying times and optimal temperature conditions—is essential to maximize the finish’s lifespan.
In an increasingly competitive market, choosing the right type of decorative plaster must take into account the local climate, the building’s architecture, and the available budget, while working with certified applicators is recommended for optimal results.
