Demand for thermal insulation materials increased by 22% in the first half of 2025, according to INS data, driven by rising energy costs and energy efficiency programs. New-generation materials, such as variable-density basalt mineral wool, PIR panels, and aerogel insulation, are gaining ground over traditional polystyrene.

Manufacturers emphasize low thermal conductivity (λ < 0.032 W/mK), as well as fire resistance, recyclability, and low volatile organic compound (VOC) emissions. On urban construction sites, hybrid solutions – thermal insulation combined with sound barriers – are increasingly used, especially in mixed residential/commercial projects.

Another trend is the shift toward products with a reduced carbon footprint in the manufacturing process. In Romania, three factories have already obtained ISO 14067 certification for calculating CO₂ emissions over the product life cycle.

Experts estimate that by 2026, more than 40% of new projects will integrate advanced technical specifications for insulation at the design stage, as a result of pressure from European energy regulations.
