The European Commission has launched a call for transport projects through the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF). Over 7 billion euros are available for new infrastructure projects, modernizations, and improvements on the Trans-European Transport Network (TEN-T), which encompasses rail transport, inland waterways, maritime or river ports, and road infrastructure.
Additionally, projects that support the EU-Ukraine Solidarity Corridors, created to facilitate exports and imports between Ukraine and Moldova, will also be eligible.
For the first time, entities and authorities from Ukraine and Moldova can directly apply for EU funding under this call for projects, thanks to the association agreements signed with these two countries earlier this year.
Adina Vălean, Commissioner for Transport, stated, "This call for projects will be the largest in terms of budget available during the 2021-2027 period. We are making over 7 billion euros available for projects that will support an intelligent and sustainable transport system, with a focus on cross-border projects between Member States."
She added, "The times we are living in have once again demonstrated the importance of having a strong network of railways, inland waterways, and maritime routes that enhance our industry's competitiveness, bring citizens closer to each other, and firmly anchor Ukraine and the Republic of Moldova in the EU."
The infrastructure projects funded will improve safety and interoperability on the EU's transport network. The call also targets projects that enhance the resilience of transport infrastructure to natural disasters. These investments will support the competitiveness of the internal market, both for passengers and goods, for a better quality of life and emissions reduction.
Applicants are invited to submit their proposals by January 30, 2024.
