The building on the plan is not the building in reality

Between design and execution there is always a gap.

Sometimes small. Other times essential.

The project represents intention: proportions, materials, functionality, logic. Execution represents adaptation: available resources, site conditions, time and cost constraints.

Between the two, compromise inevitably appears.

It is not a deviation, but a characteristic of the process.

On site, every decision is filtered through reality. A material is replaced, a solution is simplified, a detail is adjusted. Individually, these changes are minor. Cumulatively, they can alter the outcome.

The final building follows the project. But it does not fully replicate it.

For the beneficiary, the difference is often invisible at handover. It appears over time: in the way the space functions, in the durability of details, in the overall coherence.

For developers and contractors, the balance is delicate. Too much rigidity blocks execution. Too much flexibility affects quality.

In this intermediate zone, the real outcome of the project is decided.

Not between what was designed and what was promised.

But between what was adapted and what was preserved.
