At the headquarters of the Ministry of Development, Public Works, and Administration (MDLPA), the meeting of the coordination, implementation, and monitoring group for the action plan to implement the National Strategy for Seismic Risk Reduction took place, with representatives from central and local public authorities, academia, research and professional fields, operational program management authorities, and civil society participating.
The national strategy for seismic risk reduction promotes increasing earthquake resilience in Romania's communities and built environment, establishing general objectives, actions, and outcomes to be achieved in a phased manner by the year 2050.
At the same time, the strategy proposes a detailed roadmap of short, medium, and long-term actions which, together with other developed tools (investment programs, monitoring and evaluation mechanisms, communication tools), will support the achievement of the envisaged objectives.
The event organized by MDLPA and supported by the Ministry of Internal Affairs, through the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations, aimed primarily at monitoring the implementation status of actions carried out by entities responsible for coordinating them and discussing the main challenges from the perspective of public policies and technical issues.
The discussions highlighted the efforts made by the two coordinating institutions, with responsibilities in the field of seismic risk reduction, regarding the updating of the legislative and normative framework in the field of seismic risk reduction and the multiplication of funding programs that can be accessed from European and national funds for residential and public buildings, especially in the education and health sectors, as well as the steps taken in terms of progress in implementing the strategy.
