In August of this year, there were 33% more interactions between renters and those posting rental listings on Storia.ro - the real estate platform launched by OLX, marking a record in interactions and indicating that Storia.ro visitors are renting apartments with even greater speed compared to July 2023.
At the same time, in August of this year, Romanians viewed 12% more pages with real estate listings on Storia.ro compared to July. Furthermore, compared to the same period last year, interactions in August of the current year increased by 19%.
The prices requested on the Storia.ro platform for rentals in the 10 cities analyzed increased by 17% year-on-year (August 2023 vs. August 2022), while month-on-month prices (August 2023 vs. July 2023) increased on average by 2%.
At the same time, most students looking to rent a two-room apartment have a budget ranging from 301-400 euros (44%), want to live with a friend (48%), and are satisfied (46%) with the offers they find within their budget.

The survey was published online, on Storia.ro and OLX Real Estate, in August 2023, and responses were collected from 1009 respondents nationwide.
How rental prices evolved in Bucharest, according to Storia.ro data
Compared to August 2022, in August of this year, average rental prices increased by 14% for two- or three-room apartments and by 8% for studios. Analyzing increases by sectors, it can be observed that average rental prices increased for all housing categories, except for three-room apartments in Sector 4, where prices remained stable.
The highest increases were recorded for three-room apartments in Sector 5, where rental prices are 33% higher, followed by three-room apartments in Sector 3, which increased by 25% in the past year, as well as two-room apartments in Sector 2 and three-room apartments in Sector 6, which are rented at prices 18% higher than last year.
In August of this year, the average rent for a studio ranged from 280 euros (in Sector 5) to 400 euros (Sector 1). The average rent for two-room apartments ranged from 430 euros (Sector 4) to 600 euros (Sector 1). Three-room apartments had average prices ranging from 500 euros (Sector 4 and 6) to 775 euros (Sector 1).
How rentals evolved in other major cities in the country
Compared to August of the previous year, across the country, there were predominantly increases in the average requested price for all categories of apartments, with one exception: studio apartments in Oradea, whose average rental price remained constant compared to last year.
At the same time, Cluj-Napoca is the only city where prices remained constant for all categories of apartments in August 2023 compared to July 2023.
Another exception is Sibiu, which is the only city where rental prices decreased in August 2023 for all categories of apartments compared to July 2023. Constanta is the city with the highest month-to-month growth (August 2023 vs. July 2023) in the studio apartment category (+8%).
CLUJ-NAPOCA
In August of this year, the average rental prices for apartments remained almost constant compared to the previous month. The average rental price for three-room apartments remained constant at 700 euros, while the price for two-room apartments had a slight increase of 1%, from 549 euros to 550 euros. In the case of studios, the rental price decreased by 1%, from 350 euros in July 2023 to 349 euros in August of the same year.
Compared to the same period last year, average rental prices increased by 20% for two-room apartments, 19% for three-room apartments, and 16% for studios.
IAȘI
In Iasi, the average requested prices remained relatively similar compared to the previous month, with the only change occurring for studios (-6%). Compared to August 2022, average requested prices increased by 13% for studios, 11% for three-room apartments, and 8% for two-room apartments. In Iasi, in August of this year, a studio is rented on average for 283 euros, a two-room apartment for 400 euros, and a three-room apartment for 500 euros.
BRAȘOV
In August of this year, the average requested prices for rentals fluctuated slightly compared to the previous month. If in July of this year, a studio was rented for 312 euros, in August, the price decreased by 4% to 300 euros. The rental price for two-room apartments remained the same, at 450 euros, while the price for three-room apartment rentals decreased by 2%, from 610 euros to 600 euros.
Compared to the same month of the previous year, rental prices increased on average by 17% for studios, 15% for two-room apartments, and 20% for three-room apartments.
CONSTANȚA
In August of this year, an 8% increase was observed for studios and a 1% increase for two-room apartments, while average prices for three-room apartments remained constant compared to July 2023. Compared to last year, the average rental price has significantly increased across all apartment categories, with the highest increase in three-room apartments (+44%), followed by studios (+40%), and then two-room apartments (+32%).
TIMIȘOARA
The average requested prices in August of this year for rentals remained constant compared to the previous month for studios and three-room apartments, while the rental price for two-room apartments increased by 2%. Compared to the same period last year, average rents are higher by 14% for studios and two-room apartments and by 13% for three-room apartments.
SIBIU
In Sibiu, the average requested prices in August of this year recorded a record decrease compared to the previous month: -7% for two-room apartments and -4% for studios and three-room apartments. Compared to August of last year, average requested prices increased for all categories of apartments - by 20% for three-room apartments, 17% for two-room apartments, and 14% for studios.
ORADEA
Compared to July of this year, average requested prices in August of this year for rentals decreased by 10% for studios but increased by 3% for three-room apartments, while prices for two-room apartments remained constant. Compared to August of last year, average requested prices increased by 14% for three-room apartments and by 17% for two-room apartments, while studio prices remained constant.
CRAIOVA
In August of this year, average prices remained relatively similar to those in July, although compared to August 2022, there were increases in the average price for two-room apartments (+17%), studios (+14%), and three-room apartments (+6%).
ARAD
In Arad, average rental prices are fluctuating, increasing by 3% for studios, while decreasing by 6% for two-room apartments and by 11% for three-room apartments. Compared to August of last year, there were increases of 14% for three-room apartments and 10% for two-room apartments, while for studios, the increase was 9%.
