Reveal Marketing Research conducted a representative national study for "România Eficientă" to find out whether and what solutions Romanians have identified and implemented to make their energy consumption more efficient compared to the previous year, given the significant rise in utility prices.
In the perception of Romanians, energy efficiency is mostly associated with utility costs (21%), personal comfort (18%), and individual health (17%).
Among the main conclusions of this study are:
The main factor that prompts 7 out of 10 Romanians to be more attentive to energy consumption is its price.
70% of Romanians believe that the main advantage of an energy-efficient home is saving by reducing energy costs.
Moreover, compared to 2022, there is an increase in the importance of price as a motivating factor to save energy, from 66% to 69%, to a significantly greater extent for mature individuals over 45 years old (75%).
The positive trend in home energy-saving behaviors continued in 2023. The most common actions Romanians take to reduce their energy bills are turning off lights whenever there are no people in the room (46%) and turning off the TV when it is not in use (37%).
Compared to the previous year, the percentages of those who claim to always adopt energy-efficient behaviors are increasing slightly, with increases recorded for all types of measured behaviors.
For example, the percentage of those who always turn off the lights when leaving a room increases from 44% to 46%, and those who always turn off the TV when not watching it are now 37%, compared to 33% in 2022.
More and more Romanians want thermally insulated homes with temperature control thermostats. Also, living in a thermally insulated house or apartment is very important for 76% of Romanians, and there is a significant increase in the incidence of installing thermostats for temperature control in homes, from 50% to 56% in the last year.
8 out of 10 Romanians want energy-efficient hospitals and schools.
The importance of energy efficiency is appreciated for all types of buildings, with 76% of Romanians stating that increasing the energy efficiency of residential buildings is important. However, hospitals (80%) and schools (78%) top the list of buildings that need improvements.
